I began training for my second Boston Marathon in January 2008. Between taking 2 grad courses, teaching a 2+ course load of full practicum at Boston College High School, and performing in a theatrical production spring (my last) semester of senior year, I couldn’t train past late January. I was outside at St. Thomas More Drive as the elites passed Boston College, and something inside me was so angry at myself. I was sad. I felt lonely as everyone ran by me, and I knew, even after minutes of being out there, watching the elites fly by towards “The Haunted Mile” that I never wanted to be behind that barrier again. I wasn’t meant to be watching. It was right then and there, as I watched the marathon happening before me that I was sure I’d run it again. I relied on the die hard Red Sox motto of “Next Year…” knowing that I’d be out there again.
